Skills
At SPSR
The work at SPSR falls into two categories. The first category involves custom software as required by our customer. One such project involved using a tool called 4DOS/4NT which creates a script. We created scripts to aid in the implementation of networked printers. Another script removed accessories and applications that are not useful in this context.
Another project required us to find a way to automate a GUI-based application so that it ran at specific times or only when a particular input file was available. The project also required that old input files be placed into an archive and to periodically clean out the archive. Also, output files had to be e-mailed or FTP'd to a remote site. This work required using Visual C++, Visual Basic and MAPI. Most of the code was used to create a new NT service. Since the customer's preferred e-mail system was not MS Outlook, the e-mail portion of this software required extra work.
The second category of work at SPSR is the creation of web-based applications that can be used in an Application Service Provider (ASP) model. The application that was recently completed used MS Interdev, JavaScript, VBScript, MS SQL Server, IIS and HTML. A Java applet was created using Symantec Visual Cafe. Other technologies used include Adobe PDF and FDF files, NetExs ASP+, Trellix and Visual Source Safe. Visio was used for data modeling and XMLSpy was used to start using XML. User requirements often resulted in abandoning the "simple" solution and crafting the code that would produce the desired result.
